Baosteel Mechanical Descaling (BMD) Technology

The hot-rolled strip must be descaled before further processes like cold rolling or coating. The most adopted method is acid pickling process. Yet acid pickling cannot avoid its fatal drawbacks such as severe pollution, high cost or uneven quality, which is contradictory to the green development requirements advocated by Baosteel. After 8 years of continuous self-research , Baosteel successfully developed the eco-friendly BMD technology, which is promising with the advantages of “zero pollution, high quality and low cost” and offers an excellent solution for descaling process innovation and existing lines’ reconstruction.

Technological Principle

Abrasive Water Jet: Use water and abrasives to impact the metal surface to accomplish scales removal.

Zero Pollution

During the BMD process, no dust or waste gas/water is produced, the only by-product is the mixture of iron oxides and iron powder, which can be recycled as raw materials for ironmaking process or cement manufacturing industry

High Quality

BMD steel plates exhibit much better comprehensive performance.

Low Cost

BMD system occupies less site area than acid pickling with the same production capacity.
No need for acid regeneration system or dedusting system which demands for large space
